How Does Invisalign Work?
You begin your treatment by taking photos, moulds or a digital scan of your teeth so that the precise new position of your teeth can be planned.
The bespoke aligners are made based on different stages of the straightening plan. That means you will wear one set of aligners for a couple of weeks before a new set is worn. This process repeats until the desired position of the teeth is reached. It’s a gentle way to encourage the teeth into the right position without having to use any strong wires or brackets.
The Invisalign Process
The plan for each individual is different, but the Invisalign process will often contain these stages:
Consultation - We discuss your smile goals, answer any questions you have about Invisalign, and examine your teeth, gums and jaw. If you are suitable for Invisalign we can discuss a treatment plan with you. If you are happy with the plan, we then take clinical photos and impressions of your smile.
Plan - In a second appointment we will show you your digital Invisalign plan. This will show you your teeth at each stage of the process, after each set of aligners. You will also be able to see the end result of the treatment, and discuss any changes you want to make. Once you are happy with the plan, we can order your aligners.
Aligners - Once your aligners are ready you will visit us to collect them. We will show you how to use them, care for them and care for your teeth during treatment. You will then wear the aligners for over 23 hours every day before switching to your next set.
Checking In - We will check your progress every 6 weeks or so to ensure the treatment is going well, and to make any adjustments needed.
Finish - At the end of your treatment we may recommend some further aligners, composite bonding or restorative treatment for detail work. Once your smile is perfect, we will recommend retainers (fixed and removable) to ensure your smile stays in its beautiful new straight position.
